Prayer Pillowcases by Girlfriends Care
You probably wonÂ’t see these prAna products in any retail store near you Â… but, you might just see them at a North San Diego County thrift store if youÂ’re lucky! In response to the article in the Union Tribune in 2009 about the Girlfriends Care Prayer Pillowcases, they were contacted by prAna, a wholesale manufacturer of sportswear located in San Marcos. PrAna donated fabric that they could no longer use…in fact, they donated so much that we also included the North Coast Calvary Chapel Crafters in our abundance! What was a few yards of “scrap” fabric to PrAna is now turned into pillowcases with a child’s prayer for the homeless who stay in overnight shelters, for those in crisis and transition, and for folks in recovery programs to learn the skill of sewing to help them as they get back to the real world.We are just amazed at the labor of love and creativity when people set out to serve others!  What you might think is “trash”, might not ever actually really be!

Everyone had a fun time at Aviara Community Park for the Girlfriends Care picnic on Saturday, 
August 8th!  In addition to consuming the best grilled burgers this side of Kansas (a` la Ken & Jeff), the kids enjoyed sports and games as everyone let down their hair to relax with friends. We collected 200 pairs of socks, plus some jeans and shoes for StandUp For Kids in Oceanside, an organization that helps age 21 and younger homeless and street-kids get off the streets. www.standupforkids.org. Thanks to all who participated.

Children spent a meaningful morning learning what it measn to help less fortunate families by scooping rice and beans into family-size portions for the food box program at Brother Benno’s. Due to our current economy more families than ever need a little extra help each month to feed their families.
